What is injection molding?
Injection molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting molten plastic into a mould, where it compressed and cooled to produce the final product. It is a fast process and is used to produce large numbers of identical items from high precision engineering components to disposable consumer goods.
How injection molding works.
There are four main units which injection molding machine consists of - the feed hopper, the heater barrel (injection unit), clamping unit and mold. From hopper raw material is fed into the barrel where it is subjected to pressure and temperature until it melted. The turning screw inside the barrel injects precise amount of the molten plastic into the mould until mold is filled. Then the part is cooling until it is ready to be taken from the mould. Next built in mould an ejecting mechanism ejects the part. If a portion of the finished part is still in the mould the mould will reopen until the part has been completely ejected.
Types of injection molding machines:
Also injection molding machines can be divided into vertical injection molding machines and horizontal injection molding machines according to the arrangement of injection device and mould locking device.
